Saturday, March 29th is the date for our Annual Browse and Brunch Booksale at AWC. We will be open for business from 11 to 4 at our Clubhouse on Plaza República del Ecuador, 6 (near Metro Colombia and right next to Talleres Ecuador). There will be books, dvds and magazines in various languages, and chili con carne, homemade baked goods, beverages and other munchies. If you would like to donate books to our sale, you are most welcome to bring them to the Club at any time this week from 10-4, and even on the day of the Sale itself. We’re pleased to announce that all is in place for our 60th Anniversary Dinner and Dance at the Hotel Gran Velázquez, c/ Velázquez, 62. They’ve prepared a terrific menu for us and have been so accommodating. The ticket price is 50 euros per person, but for current AWC members, the price will be 40 euros. AWC will make up the difference, as we want as many members as possible to come join in the fun.
Plan to arrive at 8:30 pm and settle in for a welcome Cocktail that will start at 9 pm. At 9:30, we will sit at our pre-arranged tables and dinner will begin. Wine, beer, and sodas are included in the menu. First course is ―Abanico de trigueros con salmón y cangrejo acompañado de yemas tibias y tapenade.‖ Second course is a choice between fish or meat that must be made at the time of ticket purchase: ―Dorada a la espalda con verduritas a la parrilla‖ or ―Solomillo con salsa de foie bajo ladrones de bacon con milhojas de patata a la crema de vainilla.‖ Dessert is Gran Velázquez’s specialty ―Arroz con leche con helado de mango.‖ (We’re working on the translation!) After dessert we will have a short program and toast AWC with cava.
