TUESDAY THE CLUBHOUSE WILL BE CLOSED

In honor of the Fiesta of San Isidro, a Madrid specific holiday, our clubhouse will be closed.

Be aware that most shops and businesses in Madrid will be closed.

The STORY OF SAN ISIDRO

During a time when horrible drought had reduced Madrid to almost nothing i.e., animals dying in the street, families decimated by hunger and thirst, San Isidro was a poor worker, who prayed every day at the catedral. He went out to plow the hard desiccated earth, passed out from dehydration praying that someone would plow the fields for him.

He was awakened by an angry Master. But, when they both looked down, the field was being plowed by seraphim. On the verge of death, sunk his staff into the ground, yelling out "GOD give me water!"

The earth bubbled up, replenishing him and his master, and the fields, thus saving Madrid from sure extinction.

The hill where he found the water is now a park -- Pradera de San Isidro in the Carabanchel District. The spring still bubbles to this day and is open to the public this day for drinking the magical water. People (Los Chalupos) dress in traditional clothes, dance and sing in the plazas and hold processions.
